Golden Link Presents Traditional Celtic Music at its Best with Scotland’s Tannahill Weavers

Rochester, NY – Traditional Celtic music at its best! With fire-driven instrumentals, topical songs, haunting ballads, and a good dose of humor, the Tannahill Weavers have transformed traditional material and brought it into the modern world, becoming one of Scotland’s premier traditional bands. They will perform in concert for the Golden Link Folk Singing Society on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at 6:30 pm at Greece Baptist Church, 1230 Long Pond Road, Rochester NY 14626.

Born of a session in Paisley, Scotland, and named for the town’s historic weaving industry and local poet laureate Robert Tannahill, the group has made an international name for its special brand of Scottish music. The variety and range of the material they perform is matched only by their enthusiasm and lively Celtic spirits.

Members of the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame, the Tannahill Weavers released their 18th recording, Òrach (“Golden” in Gaelic) in 2018 to celebrate their 50th anniversary. The following year they were nominated for Folk Album of the Year and Folk Band of the Year in Scotland.

The band includes founding members Roy Gullane (guitar, lead vocals) and Phil Smillie (flute, whistles, bodhrán, harmony vocals) along with piper Iain MacGillivray – who is Scotland’s youngest Clan leader and has worked recently on such exciting productions as Outlander and Men in Kilts – and Malcolm Bushby on fiddle, bouzouki, and harmony vocals.

“Scotland’s Tannahill Weavers play acoustic instruments, but the atmosphere at their shows is electric. … They can summon rock ‘n’ roll intensity or haunting introspection.” – The Boston Globe

“… Their great humour and superb musicianship make them one of the finest bands on the circuit.” – Rogue Folk Review
