Golden Link presents the Americana sounds of Hey Mavis

Rochester, NY – For more than 11 years, the Ohio-based Americana band Hey Mavis has been weaving a musical tapestry and igniting a following of dedicated fans. With heartfelt vocals, honest songwriting, blazing instrumental solos, and an undeniable onstage musical chemistry, this quartet is the definition of great Americana music. Hey Mavis performs on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 7:30 pm at Greece Baptist Church, 1230 Long Pond Road, Rochester NY 14626. See below for Golden Link’s COVID safety protocols.

Laurie Michelle Caner writes the majority of the group’s songs and also sings lead and plays banjo along with Eddie Caner on violin, Bryan Thomas on upright bass, and Anthony Taddeo on drums/percussion. “Laurie [Caner] is by far one of my most favorite songwriters ... The great songs just keep coming.” – Scott Regan, Host of “Open Tunings” on WRUR.

Producer Don Dixon (REM/Smithereens/Red Clay Ramblers) “discovered” the group on a local Christmas compilation CD and went on to produce their first two albums, both of which hit the top 10 on the national Folk DJ radio charts and amassed favorable reviews across the globe. Their most recent album, Live at Lovin’ Cup, was recorded right here in Rochester and released as a QR code on the side of a bottle of Karma Sauce hot sauce!

Hey Mavis has appeared on NPR’s Mountain Stage, NPR’s Whad’ya Know?, and PBS’s Songs from the Center. The group has performed standing-room-only shows at the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival as well as nine consecutive sell-out concerts in their hometown of Akron, Ohio. In 2018, Melissa Etheridge personally chose Hey Mavis to perform on her music cruise featuring Etheridge and Sarah McLachlan.

“This crew could single handedly ignite a whole new folk music scare. Killer stuff!” – Midwest Record

Lynne Hanson

Saturday, June 3, 2023; 7:30 pm

Greece Baptist Church, 1230 Long Pond Road, Rochester NY 14626

Too tough for folk and too blues-influenced for country, Ottawa-based musician Lynne Hanson’s brand of porch music can turn on a dime from a sunshine, blue sky ballad to a full-on thunderstorm of gritty Americana swamp from one song to the next. Her hard living music has garnered her the nickname “Canada’s Queen of Americana.” And while her deep, bluesy croon has drawn comparisons to Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch, it’s the poetry of her lyrics that really sets her apart. Joining her in concert is Blair Michael Hogan on guitar.

Tickets: General Admission: $25 ($27 at the door), Golden Link Members: $20 ($22 at the door), Students: $10, Children under 12: $5.
