Golden Link presents an evening with quintessential folk singer David Wilcox

Rochester, NY – Folk singer/songwriter David Wilcox’s lyrical insight is matched by a smooth baritone voice, virtuosic guitar chops, and creative open tunings, giving a range and tenderness in his music. Now, more than 20 albums into a career spanning over 30 years of touring extensively around the U.S. and the world, he continues to deliver joy, inspiration, and invention to his legions of fans. David Wilcox performs on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 7:30 pm at Greece Baptist Church, 1230 Long Pond Road, Rochester NY 14626. See below for Golden Link’s COVID safety protocols.

David Wilcox is a quintessential folk singer, telling stories full of heart, humor, and hope; substance, searching, and style. His innate sense of adventure and authenticity is why critics and colleagues alike have always praised not just his artistry, but his humanity as well.

A 1988 recipient of the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Award, Wilcox signed with A&M Records in 1989, selling more than 100,000 copies of his A&M debut, How Did You Find Me Here.

His 2018 release, The View from the Edge, finds him delving into mental health, family legacies, spiritual contemplations, and topical concerns. The song “We Make the Way by Walking” also won him the Grand Prize in the 2018 USA Songwriting Contest.

“I think the coolest thing about this kind of music is that, if you listen to a night’s worth of music, you should know that person,” he explains. “If you’re hearing a performer sing all these songs, you should know not only where he gets his joy and what he loves, but you should know what pisses him off and what frightens him and what runs him off the rails, what takes him apart and what puts him back together.”

“David Wilcox’s ongoing musical journey is compelling and richly deserving of a listen.”

Lynne Hanson

Saturday, June 3, 2023; 7:30 pm

Greece Baptist Church, 1230 Long Pond Road, Rochester NY 14626

Too tough for folk and too blues-influenced for country, Ottawa-based musician Lynne Hanson’s brand of porch music can turn on a dime from a sunshine, blue sky ballad to a full-on thunderstorm of gritty Americana swamp from one song to the next. Her hard living music has garnered her the nickname “Canada’s Queen of Americana.” And while her deep, bluesy croon has drawn comparisons to Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch, it’s the poetry of her lyrics that really sets her apart. Joining her in concert is Blair Michael Hogan on guitar.

Tickets: General Admission: $25 ($27 at the door), Golden Link Members: $20 ($22 at the door), Students: $10, Children under 12: $5.
