Golden Link presents “In The Spirit of Pete” with folk singer/songwriters Joe Jencks & Maria Dunn

Published on 4/11/2019
Rochester, NY – On the day of Pete Seeger’s 100th birthday, Golden Link honors his musical, environmental, labor, and civil rights legacy in this special concert featuring acclaimed performing songwriters Joe Jencks and Maria Dunn, who each in their own way are continuing Pete’s legacy. You’ll hear some of Seeger’s classic songs as well as Jencks and Dunn’s original music. They come to Rochester for a Golden Link concert on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 7:30 pm at the Rochester Christian Reformed Church, 2750 Atlantic Avenue, Penfield.

With nearly two decades under his belt on the international folk music circuit, Joe Jencks has become a favorite singer, performer, and songwriter of music fans throughout North America. Jencks’ lyric baritone voice combined with his well-crafted heartfelt lyrics weave a richly layered tapestry. In addition to his solo work, he co-founded the dynamic harmony trio Brother Sun with Greg Greenway and Pat Wictor.

“The key to the future is people joining in. The music of Joe Jencks captures this essential spirit. Joe is a fantastic singer who carries on the traditions.” – Pete Seeger

A true preserver of the spirit of folk music, Canadian musician Maria Dunn is often compared to Woody Guthrie for her keen social awareness and her unvarnished songs about the lives of working men and women. Since she began writing her own music in the mid-‘90s, Dunn has drawn deeply on the folk tradition of storytelling through song to honor the resilience and grace of “ordinary” people, past and present.

“The key to the future of the world is finding the optimistic stories and letting them be known.” – Pete Seeger, 1994
