Mike Strobel’s been playing folk music since the early 1970s, starting in the Buffalo area, where he grew up. Moving to Rochester in the early 1980s got him engaged with Golden Link during that timeframe for many years.
His talent level for performing folk music and his love of folk music history blossomed because of what he garnered from many great Golden Link talented songwriters and performers. Mike has performed throughout western and central New York, Western Pennsylvania, and Ontario, Canada, at a variety of venues and coffeehouses, with his own material and covers of Dylan through Wilco. Dusty Road’s roots are with a husband and wife team, Dan and Maureen Kuchta, who have been making music together for over 35 years. They’re joined by long time friend, Linda Becker, and more recently, bassman Doug Green. They hail from Dan & Maureen’s farm in the Hilton/Brockport area where they maintain a sound studio and hone their signature mix of Americana, Roots, and Folk.
A little different? You bet! Maureen plays clarinet, recorder, and sax, Dan is the singing guitarist, Linda adds silky harmonies along with percussion and delicate fingerpicking, and Doug rounds out the quartet with his rich vocals and fluid bass lines. Tight harmonies and an eclectic mix of songs create Dusty Road’s unique sound. They’ll as likely leave you tapping a toe as wiping a tear.
