In this workshop you can learn traditional Southern Appalachian ballads from Susan Pepper, a singer-songwriter who studies, teaches and performs traditional ballads she learned in western North Carolina, where she lives. There she has researched and learned from older mountain musicians in an effort to preserve their songs and culture for future generations.
She has performed and/or taught at venues from folk schools, festivals and university settings to the Library of Congress. Susan also co-produced and acted in The Mountain Minor, which premiered on Kentucky Educational Television in 2019 and is available in various formats. A soundtrack also has been released. She earned a master’s degree in Appalachian Studies from Appalachian State University and has produced several CDs of her own singing CDs and also CDs featuring traditional N.C. singers.
Susan sometimes accompanies herself on fretless banjo, mountain dulcimer and guitar. More information may be seen at susanpepper.com.
