John McCutcheon - an ONLINE Concert

McCutcheon Banjo hug 400px“John McCutcheon is the Bruce Springsteen of Folk Music … a national treasure!” – The Oakland Tribune

“The most impressive instrumentalist I’ve ever heard.” – Johnny Cash

“One of the best musicians in the USA.” – Pete Seeger

As part of Golden Link’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2021, we had planned a special concert with John McCutcheon, folk music’s renaissance man. Obviously, our plans have changed … but Golden Link is excited to be able to bring John to you in your own home through the live-streaming concert service Mandolin.

Golden Link is one of a number of East Coast presenters who are sponsoring this concert and a portion of every ticket purchased via Golden Link will also help support our organization.

McCutcheon John Hands OutIf you aren’t familiar with his music, John McCutcheon is a master instrumentalist (hammer dulcimer, banjo, guitar, piano, autoharp), powerful singer-songwriter, storyteller, activist, and author. His eclectic catalog of ballads, historical songs, children’s songs, love songs, topical satire, instrumentals, and even symphonic works is among the broadest in American folk music and his 30+ albums have earned seven Grammy nominations.

For this concert - which he's calling "Roots & Wings" - John says, "I'll do a blend of traditional songs and my own, especially those I've written in recognizable traditional forms. I'll give a shoutout to those groups who continue to celebrate, teach, and honor traditional music and those that are shepherding it into our own lives and times. (Happy 50th Birthday, Golden Link!) We'll have a bit of a campfire Q&A after the music, just like we do in person. And, who knows?, maybe we might even have a special guest or two!"

People of every generation and background seem to feel at home when McCutcheon takes the stage; as one critic said, it’s “like a conversation with an illuminating old friend.”

Following the concert, John will do a Q&A session, right on Mandolin so you don’t have to exit and log in somewhere else. You can type in questions in the chat.
