It has been said that Joe & Sherri "know a good song and write a good song." As testament to their songwriting, a number of their original songs have been recorded by other folksingers and bluegrass bands. Their 2019 release of LaMay & Reese: Songs of Joe LaMay & Sherri Reese in Other Voices features fifteen recorded covers of their original songs.
In support of their local community in Kentucky, Joe & Sherri are music directors of the Carnegie Community Arts Center, host the monthly 3rd Friday Folk at the Carnegie, the weekly Lake Cumberland Jammers, and the Somerset Songwriters Group, as well as involvement in other local musical events.
Rick was for too long a boy soprano in a serious New England church choir, singing with his father, a dance band pianist. He switched to trombone to escape the four days a week rehearsal and performance schedule, and to play in his High School marching band. He didn’t return to singing until nearing retirement some 20 years ago.
Since then he has sung bass in various high spirited choirs, hosted a Gospel Train radio show, and sung regularly with the Vancouver (BC) Folk Song Society and their sea shanty group, The Lazy Jacks.
The COVID conditions have enabled him to “sail the cyber seas” to sing with folks in several ports of call, including Rochester. His in-laws live in upstate New York, most staying close to the homestead in Weedsport on the Erie Canal.
