Virtual Sing Arounds

Since we can’t meet in person right now, Golden Link is hosting “virtual” sing-arounds on Zoom. (Thanks to Sam Asher for suggesting this and getting the ball rolling!)

The meeting opens at 7:15 pm and we plan to start singing at 7:30 pm.  Not the same as seeing each other face-to-face, but we can still keep the music going.

Here’s how it works:
Make sure you have a quiet space and good lighting for a virtual meeting and have a computer, tablet, or smartphone equipped with a camera and a microphone. If on a mobile device, download the Zoom app for your device. (See tips below on how to set up your space for a virtual meeting – camera angle, lighting, background, etc.)

At 7:15 pm on Tuesday, click on the Zoom link below to join the sing-around. Due to some security changes Zoom has made, you may have to wait briefly in the "waiting room".  We plan to start singing at 7:30 as usual.

When you first arrive to the meeting, you may need to unmute your microphone to talk with others already there. It would also be helpful if you put your own name (not just your device name) on your account, so we know who you are.

You can see the other people in the meeting – either as a single image or multiple images if you click on Gallery view (may vary depending on device). Keep in mind that we can’t all talk at once and be heard, so be polite.

Since there are delays in the transmission that make it hard to play or sing together in real time, we’ll keep it to one person performing a song at a time. The host will call on different people to sing a song.

If you’re not leading the song, please mute your mic (there’s a button on the screen), so you can play or sing along at home.  Alternatively, f you're on a desktop computer, use Alt+A (PC) or used Command+Shift+A (Mac) to toggle the mic on and off.

A few other tips for using Zoom:
* Make sure there’s enough light so we can see your face.
* If you’re leading a song on guitar, it also helps if we can see your fretting hand for the chords.
* If you’re using a mobile device, you can put it on a music stand that you can adjust to the correct height, with an added benefit – the music stand can also hold your music for when it’s your turn to lead.
* If you’re using Zoom on your computer, there are settings you can adjust for music. Check out this helpful video with tips on how to adjust Zoom’s audio settings: https://youtu.be/50NoWIiYECA
