Golden Link presents A January Jamboree featuring acoustic/ old-time music from The Cadleys and The Brothers Blue

Rochester, NY – Enjoy a fun evening of music featuring two regional favorites: the entertaining bluegrass/Americana band The Cadleys and the old-time/roots trio The Brothers Blue. Golden Link’s January Jamboree is like a mini-festival beginning with a harmony singing workshop with The Brothers Blue at 3 pm, a sing-around/jam session starting at 5 pm, and a chili supper from 6 to 7 pm (both meat and vegetarian options). The concert begins at 7:30 pm. Bring your instruments and voices to join in the fun on Saturday, January 25, at the Rochester Christian Reformed Church, 2750 Atlantic Avenue, Penfield.

The Cadleys – Based in Syracuse, The Cadleys are one of the area’s most entertaining acoustic bands, performing everything from traditional mountain ballads and bluegrass classics to innovative acoustic covers and original songs. John (vocals, guitar, mandolin) and Cathy (vocals, guitar, banjo) Cadley follow in the tradition of great male-female duets like Ian & Sylvia, George Jones and Tammy Wynette, and Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons. Their voices blend in seamless harmony to produce one powerful sound. Joining them are veteran bassist John Dancks and virtuoso Perry Cleaveland on mandolin and vocals for an evening of great singing, solid musicianship, and entertaining rapport.

The Brothers Blue – Rooted in the fertile tradition of old-time fiddle music, The Brothers Blue grow a sound all their own – offering a hybrid which unites fresh, original songwriting with elements from country, bluegrass, Cajun, and Irish music. The band features Ben Haravitch on banjo, guitar, and bass; Matthew Sperber on guitar and bass; and Charlie Coughlin on fiddle and mandolin; with all three contributing to the vocal harmonies. Winners of Golden Link’s 2015 New Voices Emerging Artists Showcase, The Brothers Blue perform original and traditional American folk music throughout the Buffalo, Rochester, and Finger Lakes regions.

The Brothers Blue will also be hosting a Harmony Singing Workshop at 3 pm (separate $10 registration required). The trio will discuss constructing two- and three-part harmonies in their music and participants will have a chance to sing in harmony. Visit www.goldenlink.org to register.

Tickets for the $5 Chili Supper – which includes meat, vegetarian, and gluten-free options, served with bread, salad, and a brownie – can be purchased online along with your purchase of concert tickets.

RUNA

Celebrating its 10-year anniversary as a band, Celtic-American “super group” RUNA continues to push the boundaries of Irish folk music into the Americana and roots music formats. Interweaving the haunting melodies and exuberant tunes of Ireland and Scotland with the lush harmonies and intoxicating rhythms of jazz, bluegrass, flamenco, and blues, they offer a thrilling and redefining take on traditional music.

Dana & Susan Robinson

From Cabot, Vermont, Americana roots and folk duo Dana and Susan Robinson combine vivid
songwriting and storytelling with fiddle tunes, banjo grooves, elegant melodies, and rich harmony singing. Drawing upon experiences of more than 20 years of touring, Dana and Susan craft a
performance that conveys the mystery and wonders of their journey. Their unique blend of original songwriting and traditional Appalachian music bring to their performances a deep understanding of America’s musical heritage, and how it relates to our contemporary lives.

Mary Fahl
Former lead singer of October Project

Mary Fahl is an expressive, emotional singer/songwriter who first achieved fame as lead singer and co-founder of the mid-1990s NYC-based chamber-pop group October Project. The hallmark of their sound was Mary Fahl’s awe-inspiring power vocals over gorgeous melodies played with passion and sophistication. She performs with an earthy, viscerally powerful contralto that Boston Globe critic Steve Morse calls “a voice for the gods that can transport listeners to other realms.”

Bill Staines

For more than 45 years, Bill Staines has been the quintessential folk troubadour, singing his songs at the country’s top festivals, concerts, clubs, and coffeehouses. Playing 200+ dates a year and driving more than 65,000 miles annually, Staines creates music that is a slice of Americana, filled with cowboys, Yukon adventures, fisherman, and everyday working people. He writes lovely, infectious melodies, and his story-filled lyrics recall with compassion and depth the landscapes and characters he’s known.
