Powerful Music from John McCutcheon

Called folk music’s Renaissance man, John McCutcheon is an engaging storyteller, powerful singer-songwriter, and master instrumentalist (hammer dulcimer, banjo, guitar, piano, autoharp) who excels at getting people singing together and thinking about what’s important in life.

We have hosted him several times, so I know we’re in for a real treat when he returns to Golden Link on Thursday, November 13 at 7:30 pm at the Rochester Christian Reformed Church in Penfield.

Note that this is not our usual concert day, and due to scheduling conflicts, this one concert will be at our former performance venue and not in Greece.

People of every generation and background seem to feel at home when McCutcheon takes the stage; as one critic said, it’s “like a conversation with an illuminating old friend.” McCutcheon’s legendary storytelling illuminates moments great and small, elevating the ordinary to the extraordinary, all delivered with his warm baritone voice, fleshing each tale out perfectly.

John McCutcheon and Tom Paxton have been pals for decades. During the pandemic, they started meeting each week on Zoom to write songs and in 2023, they released Together, adding another bunch of great new songs to the repertoire of our time. You will likely hear some of their collaborations at this concert, as well as selections from John’s latest album, Field of Stars, and of course some of the old favorites.

Other upcoming concerts include the rescheduled date with Mad Agnes on Saturday, November 22 (back at Greece Baptist Church) and Rochester Music Hall of Famer Christine Lavin on Sunday, December 7. Mark your calendars and plan to join us. There’s nothing like being in the room when the magic happens at a live concert!
