Bring classic Grateful Dead songs to life on acoustic guitar in this special pre-concert (see above) workshop with Dead to the Core’s Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers and Jefferson Hamer. You’ll learn how to play the chords and create powerful grooves in songs like “Friend of the Devil,” “New Speedway Boogie,” and “Brown Eyed Women,” plus add cool embellishments and riffs inspired by the Dead’s performances. The session is oriented toward guitarists but open to other acoustic instrumentalists who’d like to jam along.
The songs covered will depend on the group’s interests. Vote for your favorites here.
Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers is founding editor of Acoustic Guitar magazine and author of a best-selling Homespun video series teaching Grateful Dead songs for acoustic guitar.
Jefferson Hamer is an internationally touring songwriter, guitarist, and traditional musician who performs with the Murphy Beds and Session Americana. His guitar work and vocals are featured, most recently, on Sarah Jarosz’s Grammy-nominated Blue Heron Suite.
After the workshop, join Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers and friends at the same location, in the main sanctuary, for the "Dead to the Core" concert at 7:30pm. Tickets for that event are sold separately and are available here.
Workshop seats are limited so be sure to register (online only) by Thursday, October 6th at midnight. For questions, contact our Education Coordinator.
